Sell Slack Data: What It's Worth to AI Companies
Thinking about whether to sell Slack data? Get a quick estimate for your Slack history, see what buyers pay more for, and learn how a sale works without giving up your data.
Slack is the most requested source of company data because it shows how people actually decide and hand off work. On its own, a mid-size workspace often estimates in the tens of thousands of dollars. Long history, heavy written discussion, or combining it with email, tickets and CRM pushes that into six figures. Depth of history and real discussion matter more than message count.

Why AI companies want Slack data
AI labs are training agents to do real office work: coordinate a project, answer a colleague, escalate an issue. Public text doesn't show that. Slack does, in the threads where people ask questions, push back, decide and follow up. That's why startups selling Slack archives while shutting down have drawn deals in the tens of thousands of dollars, and why direct buyers ask for Slack first.
What makes Slack data worth more or less
| Raises value | Lowers value |
|---|---|
| Years of continuous history | A workspace less than a year old |
| Long threads with back-and-forth | Mostly bot alerts and integration noise |
| Private channels and DMs included (Business+ and above) | Public channels only, with little activity |
| Former members' history kept | Members deleted or history limits applied |
| Work channels tied to real projects | Social chatter and announcements only |
What's removed or excluded
Names, emails, phone numbers and other identifying details are stripped by a privacy specialist before any buyer or lab sees the data. Shared channels with clients, or channels holding a client's confidential material, are usually excluded from the license.
How to measure your Slack data
Workspace Owners and Admins can see total messages sent in Workspace analytics. Note how many years the workspace has been active and how many members it has had.
How to sell or license it
- Don't delete anything. Keep the account active, including former employees.
- Note the size and history. Total messages from Workspace analytics, years active, and peak member count.
- Get an estimate. Use the estimator above, or the full calculator to include your other systems.
- Request an offer. A direct buyer reviews a sample, prices it, and pays after anonymized delivery. Start with Polyshares, or compare buyers first.
Common questions
Can I sell my company's Slack messages?
Yes, if the company owns the workspace and the content isn't held on behalf of clients. Identifying details are removed before transfer. Check with your attorney about employee notice in your state.
How much is Slack data worth?
It depends on years of history, how much real discussion it holds and how many people used it. Startups have reported $10K to $100K (Forbes, Apr 16, 2026) for archives sold during shutdown, and direct buyers license full operating records for $100K and up.
Do I need to export Slack before selling?
Not to get an estimate. Buyers start from your intake answers and review a sample. But if you're closing, export before you cancel, since deleted workspaces can't be recovered.
Will my employees' DMs be sold?
Only if they're included in the export and the license. Many companies exclude DMs. Where included, identifying details are removed before anyone sees them.
