How to Export a Trello Board (JSON, CSV and Attachments)

Single boards, whole Workspaces, comments and attachments. Here's which Trello plan gets what.

The short answer

Open the board menu, choose Print, Export, and Share, then pick JSON or CSV. JSON works on every plan but only includes the 1,000 most recent actions. CSV needs a Premium Workspace and leaves out comments. For everything, a Premium Workspace admin can export all boards from Workspace Settings, Export, with raw attachments included.

Step by step

01Check your plan

If your Workspace is on Premium or Enterprise, use the Workspace export. It's the only way to get every comment.

02Open Workspace settings

On Trello.com, find your Workspace, open Settings and select Export.

03Create a new export

Start a new export and check Include raw attachments so files come out in their original formats. Without it, the export only links to files hosted on Trello.

04Download the ZIP

When it's ready, download it from the same page. Only Workspace admins can create and download these exports.

05Free plan: export each board to JSON

Open each board, click the board menu, Print, Export, and Share, then Export as JSON. Busy boards will lose older comments past the 1,000-action limit.

06Move Inbox cards first

Cards in your Inbox can't be exported. Move them to a board before you start.

How to find the size of your Trello data

Count boards, cards and how many years the Workspace has been active. Busy boards with long comment threads and checklists carry more value than boards used as simple lists.

What a full Trello export is worth

AI companies license company records like this to train software agents on real work. Board history shows how a team plans, assigns and finishes work. Comments and card movement over years are what buyers look for.

Export the full history, not a sample

Buyers price on depth: years of continuous history with real discussion in it. A partial export or a single report is worth far less than the complete record.

Common problems

  • Comments missing. CSV never includes them, and board JSON stops at 1,000 actions. Use the Workspace export.
  • Archived cards missing from CSV. Add .csv to the end of the board URL to include them.
  • Attachments are just links. Re-run the Workspace export with Include raw attachments checked.
  • Can't re-import the export. Trello can't rebuild a board from JSON or CSV. The export is an archive.
